who are we?

SimplyExcess was founded by John Jansson, who has over 20 years’ experience in the car hire excess insurance market. In 2002, he co-founded Insurance4CarHire — the first company to offer standalone car hire excess insurance, and the business that created the market.

Before entering the insurance market, John had a successful career as a professional musician, with an established public profile.

SimplyExcess was created with a clear aim: to make car hire excess insurance simpler, clearer, and easier to buy. That approach is built around consistency and value — the qualities that experienced travellers and independent reviewers look for when comparing policies.

Our team brings extensive experience across car rental and travel insurance, with a detailed understanding of how policies work in practice — not just how they’re described.
